Elena Tello Portoles is a Spanish Teacher at University Prep (Seattle, WA) and has served in a variety of roles, including Head of the Languages Department for six years, and currently serving as 11th Grade Dean of Students. Elena also mentors students through her role as an advisor and supports their development as human beings.

“The YPB – PNW is looking forward to working with Elena, as we continue to grow and make our presence known in the region,” stated YPB Chairman, Corey Wise. “The Young Professionals Board [PNW] is beginning to play a critical role in assisting with community outreach and engagement, further extending our reach into the region.

Elena was born and raised in Lleida, a city about two hours away from Barcelona (Spain). Passionate about French language and literature, she participated in a university exchange program, which provided the opportunity to finish her degree in Paris (Sorbonne Nouvelle and Paris Saint-Denis) while obtaining her BA in French from the Universitat de Lleida (Licenciatura en Filología Francesa).

“We’re excited to have Elena join the YPB – PNW and know with her skillsets, energy, and passion for the mission, she will help to elevate DBL’s exposure in the region to the next level,” stated Vice President of Development, Harvey Potts

Elena has worked at University Prep for the past 16 years and earned a Masters in Applied Linguistics in the Teaching of Spanish as a Foreign Language by the Universidad de Jaén, while teaching full time.

“Dogs have been crucial for my well-being and they have helped me in many ways,” stated Elena Tello Portoles. “I joined the YPB because I want to continue spreading the word about the dedicated work DBL does for others, and to encourage people to learn more about raising puppies for DBL. It takes a village they say, and we need more villagers.”

Elena enjoys drumming, dancing, drawing and painting, and, of course, spending time with her dog Eiffel. She also enjoys daily walks in nature and the joy of the little things in life. Elena joined the Young Professionals Board – PNW in September 2021.

Currently DBL is looking to further grow the Pacific Northwest chapter, as well as launch the California chapter. To learn more about the Young Professionals Board and opportunities to join, visit here.
