Dogs for Better Lives was recently featured in Cape Cod Life as one of 22 nonprofits in the region. DBL’s Northeast campus is located in Falmouth, MA, and we love being a part of the Cape Cod community! The full article that was published in the November/December 2022 issue can be found here.

Puppy in Training, Addie, is currently being raised by a volunteer Puppy Raiser in Massachusetts.

In April 2022, Dogs For Better Lives expanded to East Falmouth by opening a second training campus. The new Northeast campus makes it possible to provide more Assistance Dogs to people in need across the eastern U.S., without relying on costly cross-country transportation from our west coast campus.

“We train Hearing Assistance Dogs, Facility Dogs, and Autism Assistance Dogs,” explains Development Manager Danielle Kempe.

In addition to training future Assistance Dogs at the Northeast campus, new volunteer opportunities became available to those in the region who want to make a difference, including Puppy Raisers.

“During their time raising, they attend basic obedience classes with their puppies and expose the puppies to new environments. This helps us build a solid foundation for future assistance dogs.” When the puppies are 16 months old, they return to one of their campuses for professional training.

“On the Cape, we found that a lot of empty nesters are the ones who want to take on that short-term commitment,” says Kempe. “We find that a lot of the people that get involved with the organization have a connection to the cause.”
