April Was All About Autism Advocacy for Regional Advisory Board – Pacific Northwest Members

In April, the Regional Advisory Board, Pacific Northwest (RAB-PNW) members participated in two events sponsored by the Bellevue Breakfast Rotary Club (BBRC) in support of autism awareness and advocacy. BBRC is comprised of local community and business leaders who make a difference by serving the citizens of their city and the world. One of BBRC’s focus areas improving lives of those affected by autism.

BBRC members were introduced to DBL on April 29, when RAB-PNW member Rita Brennan joined a breakfast meeting. In telling the story of autism assistance dog Vanilla and the positive, life-changing effect she’s had on Rosa Ochoa’s son Julian and their family, Rita highlighted the synergy between BBRC’s mission and DBL.

The next day, RAB-PNW board members Elena Tello Portoles and Shannon Salverda represented DBL in the BBRC’s annual All In For Autism 10K & 5K Run/Walk. This annual event was created to raise awareness and funds to support children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), their families, and caregivers.

During the event, DBL puppies in training Dipper and Petunia hosted an information table in the race village, connecting with the community and spreading awareness about DBL and its mission. The pups were joined by their incredible raisers Lambert and Tammy. (Bonus: Dipper enjoyed his first-ever bus ride commuting to the event!)
