Dogs for Better Lives staff give thanks to all that supported our 2017 #GivingTuesday campaign.
CENTRAL POINT, OR; Entering its sixth year, #GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. #GivingTuesday was this past Tuesday, November 28th.
Celebrated annually on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.
Dogs for Better Lives (formerly Dogs for the Deaf) had a goal of raising $5,000 to support various projects connected to the new Second Training Facility under construction. From benches to trees and sidewalk pavers to dog kennels, dollars raised nationally will benefit the new facility.
“One of the best ways to get our donors, volunteers, and partners invested and collaboratively involved, #GivingTuesday provides a dynamic philanthropic vehicle to fundraise around,” stated Chief Development Officer Harvey Potts.
To-date, Dogs for Better Lives has raised more than $6,200, a #GivingTuesday record for the southern Oregon-based national nonprofit. If people are still interested in supporting #GivingTuesday, there’s still time and they can follow this link here for more information.
“After months of planning, it’s truly inspiring and rewarding to see the generosity of our donors and friends come out on social media and support this Dogs for Better Lives campaign,” noted #GivingTuesday Lead Monica Schuster.
In 2016, Dogs for Better Lives raised nearly $4,300 to support Toys for Joy, a project providing toys for the many dogs that are going through training as an Assistance Dog.
Dogs for Better Lives is in the midst of major expansion with groundbreaking on a new Second Training Facility taking place in November 2016 on the 18,850 sq. ft. 40-kennel building. The new facility is expected to be completed in late Spring 2018 and will further complement DBL’s existing 22-kennel building.
Once the Second Training Facility is operational, Dogs for Better Lives will triple the number of dogs that come to the organization, receive professional training, and ultimately get placed with qualifying clients across the United States. Currently, there are three primary program areas, including Hearing Dogs, Program Assistance Dogs, and Autism Assistance Dogs.
