Dogs for Better Lives (DBL) is entering an important new chapter, and we want to share this update directly with our community. After eight years of thoughtful leadership, CEO Bryan Williams will be stepping down on April 30th as he transitions to a new role closer to family in Florida.
“Bryan leaves behind a legacy of steady leadership, mission‑driven growth, and a deep commitment to the people and dogs who make this work possible,” said Tim Cibula, Dogs for Better Lives Board Chair. He adds, “DBL’s financial reserves and strategy are solid, and we are operating from a position of strength.”

Bryan Williams led as the organization’s CEO since 2018, spearheading significant growth and expansion
During Bryan’s tenure, DBL has significantly expanded its impact, strengthened its programs, and built a foundation that positions the organization for long‑term success. We are grateful for his leadership and the heart he brought to this mission every day.
Below is a list of Dogs for Better Lives’ accomplishments and milestones from Bryan’s time at DBL.
- An increase of 40% more active Service Dog teams – the most in the organization’s history
- The opening of Dogs for Better Lives’ Northeast Campus in Falmouth, Massachusetts – allowing us to serve our national audience more effectively
- The launch of our From Shelter to Service Dog Program, in partnership with Operation Kindness and Atlanta Humane Society, leading to more shelter dogs being trained
- The creation of 5 Regional Advisory Boards across the country, growing the organization’s impact on a national level
- More than 2x increase in the number of puppies with Puppy Raisers from coast to coast – critical for the growth of our programs and ability to place more dogs into the future

Gwen Dudek, the Vice President of Program, will serve as DBL’s Interim CEO beginning May 1, 2026, as the Board conducts a nationwide search for its next CEO
As we move forward, the National Board of Directors has launched a national search for DBL’s next CEO, supported by a transition and search committee and an experienced recruiting firm. In the interim, Gwen Dudek, DBL’s Vice President of Program, will step into the role of Interim CEO beginning May 1, 2026.
“Gwen’s deep industry experience, knowledge of our programs, team, and mission will provide important continuity and stability while we search for the next CEO,” said Cibula.
Gwen has been a trusted leader within DBL, and her guidance will ensure that our work continues seamlessly.
Throughout this transition, our Leadership Team will continue working closely with staff, volunteers, clients, and partners to keep our mission moving forward. There are no significant changes expected to our work, our plans, or staff and we remain focused on delivering life‑changing Assistance Dogs to the people who need them.
We are grateful for the continued support of our community as DBL steps confidently into its next chapter. Together, we will carry this organization forward with strength, compassion, and purpose.
