4 Ways To Make A Difference on Giving Tuesday

By December 2, 2019September 9th, 2022No Comments

What Is Giving Tuesday?

Giving Tuesday is a movement dedicated to global generosity. Created in 2012, this day puts forth an incredibly simple idea: to set aside one day that encourages us all to do good. The vision of this “holiday” is to unleash the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world on Giving Tuesday, and everyday.

Giving Tuesday takes place annually the Tuesday after Thanksgiving — this year, on December 3, 2019. This global event begins at midnight local time, and runs for a full 24 hours.

Many organizations have partnered with the movement in an effort to encourage giving and community, including Google, Microsoft, Skype, PayPal and many others. The Giving Tuesday movement, backed by these influential organizations, has gained a significant amount of traction over the past seven years, being continually fueled and celebrated through social media and across the globe. This year, you can take part in Giving Tuesday and share your story using hashtag #GivingTuesday2019!

Our Favorite Giving Tuesday Ideas

Giving Tuesday ideas don’t have to be grandiose: they can be as simple as making someone smile, or helping a neighbor unload their groceries.

Some people choose to give by volunteering their time, others choose to help by making donations to local organizations whose missions they admire and support. Many choose to use the day as an opportunity to give goods or services to others in need.

Giving Tuesday Volunteering

Many people choose to use Giving Tuesday as an opportunity to give of their time to local charities and non-profit organizations. Giving your time offers the chance to personally support your community, and make a difference in the lives of those around you. It’s also a great way to develop new skills, experience, and knowledge.

At Dogs For Better Lives, we rely on our volunteers to help with all aspects of our Assistance Dog training programs. We are always looking for Canine Recruiters, Puppy Raisers, Office Volunteers, Dogs For Better Lives Ambassadors, and so much more.

If you have a soft spot in your heart for rescue dogs, four legged heroes, and the work we do at Dogs For Better Lives, then comb our website to find out all the ways that you can get involved!

Giving Tuesday Donations

When you make a donation (large or small!) to Dogs For Better Lives, your gift goes toward changing lives through our Assistance Dog training programs.  Since we do not receive federal grants or funding, our programs thrive purely on donations from our incredible community. And because of the generosity of our outstanding donors, we are able to offer Assistance Dogs at no cost to our clients in need.

This Tuesday, we hope you will consider partnering with Dogs For Better Lives and make a donation (in any amount!) that will go toward changing the life of a furry hero, and an individual in need of a trained Assistance Dog.

Giving Tuesday Fundraisers

What better day to host a fundraiser than on Giving Tuesday? This December, consider setting up a fundraising event for a cause or non-profit you care about.

You can host a fundraiser a variety of different ways, both digitally and physically. Lots of people are making use of platforms like Facebook’s birthday fundraiser to raise awareness and funds for near-and-dear organizations. You can also host digital fundraisers through websites like Kindful, Bloomerang, Crowdfunding, and more.

Or, you can host a fun event that will not only raise funds for your organization of choice, but also benefit the community. Some  fundraising ideas include hosting a walk-a-thon, pint night, local concert, casino night, or other event that will attract members of your community where the proceeds go towards a specific non-profit or charity.

Dogs For Better Lives has benefited from some amazing fundraising events within our community, and these events really do make a difference!

Giving Tuesday Sharing

A huge part of Giving Tuesday is raising awareness for the causes you care about most.

Even if you don’t have the time to volunteer or set up a fundraiser, you can help by simply liking and following social media pages of your favorite organizations, and sharing posts that help spread the word!

Social media helps us fundraise, generate awareness about our cause, and recruit volunteers — every share counts!

Regardless of how you choose to give back, we think there’s nothing more wonderful than the idea of millions of people around the globe coming together to support the causes they believe in.

We hope you’ll consider taking part in this awesome movement, and don’t forget to post share your Giving Tuesday ideas with the hashtag #GivingTuesday2019!
