We’re thrilled to introduce Hero, a yellow Labrador puppy with a big future ahead—and a big-hearted community cheering him on every step of the way.

Hero is part of Dogs for Better Lives’ Assistance Dog training program, and thanks to a new partnership with Buddies for Paws (BFP), his journey will be one to watch—and support!

Buddies for Paws is a charitable initiative within the BONK ecosystem. Using Web3 and powered by a passionate global community, they partner with animal welfare and wildlife charities to support their missions. They’ve chosen Hero as their newest “buddy,” and will be following his journey from playful puppyhood to polished professional. Through regular cryptocurrency donations—and plenty of virtual tail wags—they’re helping ensure Hero gets everything he needs to become a life-changing Service Dog for someone on our waitlist.

“It takes a village to raise a Service Dog, and we’re so grateful that Buddies for Paws has joined Hero’s village,” said Sara Ifert, VP of Marketing at Dogs for Better Lives. “Their ongoing support helps cover the cost of everything from basic supplies to early training to veterinary care.”

Born to Serve

Hero was born on May 19th to DBL Breeder Dog Riley, one of the exceptional dogs in our breeding program. Since birth, Hero and his four siblings have been lovingly raised at their Breeder Caretaker’s home in Oregon, soaking up important early experiences with the help of our expert volunteers.

Now, Hero is taking the next step in his development. Over the weekend, he traveled to meet his volunteer Puppy Raisers, who will help lay the groundwork for his future Service Dog career. From obedience classes to busy city streets, Hero will gain the confidence, skills, and real-world experience needed to succeed in one of our Assistance Dog programs.

At around 14–16 months old, Hero will return to one of our training campuses to begin formal, professional training. He’ll be carefully assessed for the best fit—as a Hearing Assistance Dog, Autism Assistance Dog, or Facility Dog—before being matched with a client who can truly benefit from his talents.

Follow Along

Buddies for Paws and Dogs for Better Lives will be sharing updates on Hero’s progress on social media.

We can’t wait to watch Hero grow into the incredible Service Dog he’s meant to be—and we’re so grateful to have partners like Buddies for Paws helping make that transformation possible.
