CENTRAL POINT, OR; In early August, Dogs for Better Lives (DBL) received nearly 200 pounds of dog treats at its training campuses in Central Point, Oregon and Falmouth, Massachusetts, all provided by corporate partner 4Legz All Natural Dog Treat, based in Centralia, WA.

For the second year in a row, the winning treat from DBL’s signature event, Bone AppeTREAT, was recreated as smaller dog kibble for Service Dogs in training. Throughout the day, trainers hand out the kibble as rewards, while working with each of their respective Service Dogs in training. This year’s winning treat at Bone AppeTREAT was created by Californians Bree Bryson and Amy Alton.

In participating as a judge in the inaugural Bone AppeTREAT event in 2023, 4Legz co-founder Cynthia Murray wanted to get more involved in supporting DBL and the producing the winning treat as training kibble for dogs in training was shortly decided upon.

“I’m pleased to support Dogs for Better Lives and their Service Dogs in training,” stated Cynthia Murray. “As a former client and now a corporate partner, I love that my contribution is truly helping to make a difference in the lives of these amazing dogs, who are ultimately going out into the world to better others’ lives.”

Cynthia and her partner founded 4Legz All Natural Dog Treats in 2004. They were inspired to develop all-natural dog treats after receiving Cynthia’s Hearing Assistance Dog from DBL, Odie. Odie had severe food allergies and Cynthia was challenged with finding any treats to reward his behavior without putting his life in danger. As any true animal lover would, Cynthia took matters into her own hands. “Odie needed someone to care for his special diet needs, as much as I needed him to be my ears,” Cynthia explained.

Plans are already underway for the 3rd Annual Bone AppeTREAT, scheduled for May 15, 2025, and we anticipate Cynthia returning for an unprecedented third time as a judge of the contestants’ human grade dog treats.

The signature event brings five contestants together from across the country, all vying to become “Top Dog” in creating the most amazing human grade dog treat. Virtual and watch party attendees from all across the United States vote for the best dog treat by donating dollars for their favorite contestant.

“We’re very excited about our ever-growing signature event, Bone AppeTREAT,” stated CEO Bryan Williams. “This hybrid event provides the opportunity to engage so many more people, who otherwise would not have the opportunity to participate. From donors to volunteers, all can be engaged in this primarily virtual event, from the comfort of their own home watch parties.”

Thanks to the support of 4Legz All Natural Dog Treats and 25 other corporate partners, this event was made possible and has continued to grow every year. Sponsorship of Bone AppeTREAT helps to underwrite the cost of the event while ultimately supporting Dogs for Better Lives’ mission to professionally train assistance dogs to help people with disabilities.

Corporate and individual sponsorships help underwrite the overall cost of the event and support the mission of Dogs for Better Lives.
