CENTRAL POINT, OR; Dogs for the Deaf, Inc. was honored last night in receiving the 2017 Outstanding Corporate Citizen – Nonprofit category award, during The Chamber of Medford/Jackson County’s 98th Annual Meeting and Excellence in Business Awards Ceremony, in Medford.
“We are truly honored by this award. It’s wonderful to be recognized by The Chamber of Medford/Jackson County, and by extension, the southern Oregon business community in this way. It highlights the importance of our work locally and regionally, bettering people’s lives every day,” stated DFD President & CEO Blake Matray.
In recognition of Dogs for the Deaf’s impact and commitment to the local community and region, The Chamber acknowledged the national nonprofit with one of its top awards. The Chamber’s Excellence in Business Awards evening is the largest annual gathering of Southern Oregon’s brightest and most successful business leaders.
“Here we honor those who have contributed to the local business community and those who are pioneering new paths in the local economy. For almost a century, The Chamber and our community leaders have come together to recognize the talents and achievements of prominent companies and outstanding individuals, who have not only progressed in business but have also succeeded in setting a great example of community involvement, while becoming advocates in our community,” noted Chamber President & CEO Brad Hicks.
In fiscal year 2016-17 that ended in June, Dogs for the Deaf placed 82 dogs nationally, 23 of which were Assistance Dogs (Hearing – 20, Program – 2, and Autism – 1). Of the 23 Assistance Dogs placed, four were placed in southern Oregon.
In November 2016 Dogs for the Deaf broke ground on an 18,800 sq. ft. Second Training Facility at their southern Oregon campus in Central Point. The two-story, 40-kennel facility will triple the number of dogs secured, professionally trained, and ultimately placed with qualifying clients. The new facility is expected to be completed and operating in Spring 2018.
Over the last several months, Dogs for the Deaf has been honored with several awards, including Oregon Business’ Top 100 Best Nonprofits to work for in Oregon (2017), Top Rated with Great Nonprofits (2017), and renewal of their top 4-star rating with Charity Navigator (2017).
